BPD and hot weather

Something that i haven’t seen talked about, is how hot weather can affect BPD.

In short terms, its horrible.

You can be more irratable.

Its harder to process emotions.

Especially if you are on anti depressents like Sertriline.

When you are on anti depressents, you are more prone to overheating, excessive sweating, dehydration, and heatstroke.

Its important to drink plenty of water. If you can, have a fan on in your room, to circulate the air.

For the people who have a person in their lives with BPD, please allow a little grace (this does not mean allowing abuse, from either sides) it means understanding that the heat is brutal on everyone, and it can be a lot harder dealing with the intense emotions, its harder to regulate, body tempreture, mood swings. It causes a lot of distress for someone with BPD

Try to get good sleep (i know easier said than done)

Something that is really good to keep you cool, are cool gel packs (you can usually get them from a pharmacy) and they can come with sleeves, if not wrap it in a towel, you pop the gel pack in the freezer and then you take it out, pop it in the tea towel and put it on whatever area, the lower back is usually a good place.

Make sure you have things to help calm your brain, like drawing, listening to music, reading, gaming.

When you go out in the heat, make sure to wear proper spf, try and avoid direct sunlight, try and stay in the shade, and wear breathable clothing.

Be kind to yourself. Its not easy on the best of days to handle BPD. Let alone when its blazing hot tempretures.

Also just as a side note. No matter how hot it is DO NOT GO IN OPEN WATERS, such as canals, lakes, or rivers.
